I found that alone doesnt cut it, I’ve had to also pass in the timezone to my tomcat startup script by adding -Duser.timezone=UTC to JAVA_OPTS.

Seriously, you are using OpenOffice for your thesis? :( ..but by the way, I found LibreOffice a nice improvement, and it can also be installed from a PPA: http://www.omgubuntu.co.uk/2011/01/libreoffice-3-3-released/

I had one major problem with the homedir-encryption, but after some trying and jetbrains-forum this got solved with a few config-tweaks.

I am an Ubuntu user too, and I have had no issues with IDEA X. Been using the EAP for quite a while. Seems more stable than 9 even, but I only had a few minor issues there.
